Zoo Animals

April is a roaring good time in Preschool as we talk about zoo animals.  We will be having many special activities this month like a stuffed animal show, a tea party with cocoa and animal crackers, circus day and of course our annual trip to the St. Louis Zoo.  Be sure to order your Toddle Towne t-shirt now so you will have it for the trip.  Before we go to the zoo we will be learning the five characteristics of mammals, the zoo rules and how to classify animals by their diet. In addition to all of this animal fun we will manage to fit in a week of baseball spring training.

And, what is that noise coming from the Beginners Department?  Are there lions in with the Ladybugs?  Koalas in with the Caterpillars?  No it’s just the Beginners learning animals sounds.  This month we will focus on animals as a way to learn numbers, colors, sharing, manners and of course animal sounds.  As the weather turns nice we will be going outside at every opportunity so be sure and send a jacket, we will go out any day it is 50 or above and not raining.

Daily activities and updates are sent directly to parents through our ProCare app.

Skill Goal Focus

Animals, especially zoo animals, never fail to capture the interest of children.  We will be utilizing that interest to motivate the children to master some of the basic preschool concepts of numbers, shapes, and colors.  Hopefully they will also become more aware of their environment by discussing animals which are nearly extinct and the conditions that cause this.  We will also be polishing our reasoning and categorizing skills as we decide which animals will be able to join the "MAMMAL CLUB". To be considered for membership the animals must: 1) have hair 2) have at least four appendages 3) breathe air 4) have their babies born alive, and 5) be able to feed babies milk from the mother's body.  The homework assignment for you and your child this month is to cut out pictures of animals and bring them in.  If you can help them to look up information about the animals which will allow them to make the decision..."mammal or non-mammal...you will be providing a great motivator for your child.
