I don’t have all of the details yet but I wanted to share some exciting news with you as soon as possible. In the Governor’s press briefing today he announced that regularly licensed child care centers in the state of Illinois will be reinstated with significant restrictions starting in Phase 3!
This means that we will be back open providing care starting on Monday, June 1st,, however, our capacity will be severely limited which means that we will not be able to provide care to all of our children yet. After four weeks of successfully operating under the new rules, we will be allowed to increase our capacity and provide care for more of our families. We are hoping that the number of families that are not ready to return yet will match the number of spots lost to the new restrictions and then we will be ready to welcome them back after our initial four weeks.
On Monday we will start calling each of you to find out what your needs are and get some idea of how many of our families need immediate care and how many can wait until after the initial four weeks. Please feel free to send an email to us and let us know your circumstance if that is more convenient than waiting for us to call. We would need to know what days and times you need care for and what date you would hope to start. Unfortunately, we may not be able to accommodate everyone right away. The email for the Alton center is firstname.lastname@example.org and for East Alton is email@example.com
Some of the severe restrictions we will be dealing with are a limit in the number of children we can care for in our facility and in each room, dramatically increased staffing requirements, the inability to combine groups, the requirement that we keep stable groups each day, the requirement that the children stay in the same room all day and many others.
You will likely see some new policies and procedures that may include front door drop off, daily health & temperature screenings, changing into “school only” shoes each day upon arrival, assigned classrooms, and strictly enforced drop off and pick up times.
In addition to these things, every child over the age of 2, and every adult will be required to have a face covering. They must wear them when arriving and departing the building when going in common areas and possibly other times throughout the day. This rule is being dictated by DCFS, IDPH & the CDC and is not optional.
As I get more information and guidance from DCFS I will pass it along to you. I hope you are as excited as I am to see everyone and get back to learning while we play and playing while we learn!
